Loulé Carnival

"The Selfie Circus" is the theme for another edition of the Loulé Carnival, which on 3, 4 and 5 March returns to Avenida José da Costa Mealha. Fun, revelry and satire are the ingredients of the festival, but this year the organisers are committed to something altogether more serious and topical: making the event more environmentally sustainable.

One of the novelties is the use of 100% biodegradable paper cups, reusable up to 4 or 5 times and compostable, distributed at bars throughout the venue. The aim is to reduce the use of disposable plastic at one of the Algarve's most attended events, in line with the Municipal Strategy for Climate Change Adaptation.

The themes and events that marked the national and international scene will be represented in fourteen parade floats, with hundreds of extras portraying the personalities who stood out most over the past year. Entertainment groups from municipal associations, samba schools with their glamorous dancers, giants and big-heads join the celebration.

Unlike recent years, this edition intends to revive the tradition of three consecutive days of parade (Sunday, Monday and Tuesday). The carnival parade begins at 3:00 pm, with an entry price of €2, the proceeds of which go to charitable causes and the associations taking part in the parade.
